Hyoma Chigiri:

Hyoma Chigiri (千ち切ぎり 豹ひょう馬ま Chigiri Hyōma?) is a left-wing player for England’s Manshine City in the Neo Egoist League. Chigiri is a forward prodigy who was hindered by a leg injury in the past, but he managed to overcome his fears while at Blue Lock to continue playing football with full dedication. Initially a member of Team Z upon arriving at Blue Lock, Chigiri struggled with participation during the First Selection, often avoiding it or only minimally engaging. However, motivated by Isagi during Team Z’s third game, Chigiri decided to confront his fears and fully commit to playing football, aspiring to become the world’s best striker like his rivals.

His given name, Hyoma (豹ひょう馬ま?), translates to “leopard horse,” highlighting his remarkable speed. His surname, Chigiri (千ち切ぎり?), translates to “julienning” or literally, “a thousand cuts.”

Combining both, his name can be understood as “leopard horse with a thousand cuts,” symbolizing his swift agility and ability to maneuver through defenses with precision.

Appearance:

Chigiri is a young man with reddish-pink hair and deep pink eyes. He has a feminine face with long eyelashes and soft features. Others refer to him as “Kunoichi” or “Princess”, but he frequently asserts his gender. Though praised for his attractiveness, Chigiri seems indifferent. He resembles his mother and older sister. After tearing his ACL, Chigiri allowed his hair to grow out, and it extends past his shoulders with one long bang sweeping to the right side of his face. He braids the left side of his hair during games.

Chigiri wears a black body suit with gray stripes and matching tracksuit at Blue Lock. He wore Team Z’s blue #4 jersey during the First Selection and switched to Team Red’s #44 jersey in the Second Selection. In the Third Selection, he wore Team B’s #44 white jersey. He donned the official Blue Lock player uniform, blue and black with the #4, in the match against Japan U-20. For Manshine City, he wears jersey #44 with a short-sleeved uniform top, shorts, socks, and black gloves.

Personality:

Chigiri possesses a strong sense of confidence and determination, driven by his belief in his superiority on the field. From a young age, he has considered himself a “chosen one” due to his natural athleticism, football talent, and exceptional speed. He has a tendency to look down on others who stand in his way or irritate him, often displaying a cocky and egotistical attitude. Despite his arrogance, he typically presents his beliefs as straightforward facts rather than mere opinions.

However, his perception of superiority was challenged when he suffered a serious injury, tearing his ACL, which caused his confidence to waver. Additionally, being bullied by the Wanima Brothers further eroded his self-assurance, instilling a fear of losing his identity if he were to fail in football. This fear led him to initially accept the invitation to Blue Lock to find a reason to give up on his dreams rather than continue pursuing them.

Nevertheless, Chigiri eventually rekindled his determination and overcame his fears, demonstrating a renewed sense of persistence and stubbornness on the field. Despite his setbacks, his confidence and drive remain key aspects of his personality, propelling him forward in his quest to become the best footballer he can be.

Chigiri’s demeanour undergoes a shift towards a more amiable yet still self-assured attitude. He retains his sassy demeanor, often making sharp remarks towards both opponents and friends alike, especially when he feels slighted or challenged. For instance, he doesn’t hesitate to try to outdo Zantetsu on the field or express his frustration when Isagi moves ahead in the Second Selection without waiting for him. Despite these competitive tendencies, off the field, Chigiri is generally easygoing and relaxed.

During his time on Team Z, Chigiri forms a close bond with Kunigami, demonstrating a high level of trust in his abilities and showing great chemistry on the field. He also extends this camaraderie by inviting Reo to join their team, recognizing the practical value of his balanced skill set and experience in navigating a trio despite any past animosity. Upon joining Team White in the Second Selection, Chigiri builds a decent rapport with Nagi, engaging in activities like watching videos about professional players and testing out trapping techniques, although he may also engage in light-hearted antagonism with Baro.

Additionally, Chigiri places considerable emphasis on caring for his body and appearance, particularly his injured knee. He takes meticulous care of his hair, a culturally common practice, though he may become visibly irritated if someone touches it without permission. Overall, Chigiri’s multifaceted personality combines competitiveness with a laid-back demeanor and a strong focus on personal grooming and well-being.

Chigiri’s exceptional focus is evident in his ability to navigate through tight spaces on the field, skillfully manoeuvring between opposing players and seamlessly transitioning between dribbling and passing. He derives immense joy from outpacing his rivals with his remarkable speed, fueling his passion for the game.

Personality of Hyoma Chigiri

Inspired by Isagi’s unwavering determination and drive, Chigiri overcomes his fears and rediscovers his inner strength, allowing him to reclaim his status as a formidable player, reminiscent of his prowess during his middle school days. With renewed determination, he declares his ambition to become the best striker in the world.

However, Chigiri’s ego occasionally interferes with his performance. In the match against Japan U-20, his lack of stamina, resulting from his extended absence from soccer before joining Blue Lock, led to his substitution. Frustrated by his physical limitations, Chigiri’s emotions get the better of him, resulting in tears of disappointment as he sits on the bench. Despite this setback, his resolve remains unwavering as he continues to strive for excellence on the field.

Abilities:

Counterattacker: Chigiri epitomizes the role of a counterattacker on the field. His exceptional pace allows him to swiftly beat defenders and create unexpected scoring opportunities for his team. Chigiri possesses the necessary shooting skills to capitalize on these chances, making him a potent threat during counterattacking situations.

He excels in exploiting opportunities when the opposing team commits most of their players forward in attack. In these scenarios, Chigiri utilizes his speed to quickly transition from defence to offence, either by receiving a pass into space or by carrying the ball himself with pace into the sparsely defended opposition half. With his ability to turn defense into attack in the blink of an eye, Chigiri poses a constant threat to opposing defenses, making him a valuable asset in any team’s counterattacking strategy.

Abilities of Hyoma Chigiri

Chigiri’s innate athleticism enables him to sprint at remarkable speeds, surpassing many other players. Combined with his exceptional concentration, he adeptly maintains control over the ball and his velocity, navigating through congested areas and manoeuvring between opponents effortlessly. Following his training with Manshine City, Chigiri has become more strategic in his approach, carefully selecting when to make decisive runs. Now, he focuses on reaching his optimal shooting position by leveraging his enhanced speed and dribbling skills, rather than rushing blindly into the penalty area.

Skills:

Chigiri is one of the fastest players in Blue Lock, with powerful leg muscles and remarkable footwork. He remains unbeaten in straight sprints and can pinpoint weaknesses in defenses with his sharp positional awareness. Chigiri’s direct kicks result in wide dribbles that disrupt opposing formations, making him one of the best breakthrough players in Blue Lock.

Long-Distance Sprinting: Chigiri’s strength lies in his ability to maintain high speeds over long distances, unlike Zantetsu or Ryusei, who excel in quick bursts. He’s recorded covering 50 meters in just 5.77 seconds. Chigiri capitalizes on this by executing a technique where he kicks the ball ahead of him for about 50 meters and then sprints to retrieve it. This tactic allows him to penetrate even the toughest defenses effortlessly.

No-Break Dribble: Instead of stopping to control a pass, Chigiri keeps the ball moving forward while continuing his run. This allows him to maintain blistering speeds without losing momentum or being easily intercepted, making it nearly impossible for defenders to stop him or protect the goal.

High-Speed Pressure: Chigiri leverages his speed defensively by swiftly closing down opponents in possession of the ball. This intense pressure often leads to mistakes from the opposition and provides opportunities for Chigiri’s team to create turnovers. However, this strategy demands a lot of energy and isn’t sustainable for extended periods due to Chigiri’s limited stamina.

Jungle Jam Run: In this maneuver, Chigiri darts straight through congested areas on the field, making quick turns to draw opponents towards him and open up space for his teammates to exploit on the flanks. This tactic effectively disrupts the opposing defence’s formation and creates scoring opportunities for Chigiri’s team.

44° Panther Snipe: Developed under the guidance of Chris Prince, Chigiri’s 44° Panther Snipe is a unique scoring style that combines his skills from Blue Lock with techniques refined in the Neo-Egoist League. Firstly, Chigiri identifies his optimal shooting position, typically 44 degrees to the left and 19 meters from the goal. Next, he utilizes a cut-in move to break through the opponent’s defence and reach this ideal spot. Finally, he executes a precise centering technique to swiftly release a controlled shot aimed at the corner of the goal.

Mach Cut-In: Chigiri employs the Mach Cut-In by initially luring his opponent with stillness before explosively executing a cut-in move, either sidestepping outside or inside the defending player. He can repeat this maneuver to swiftly bypass multiple defenders, ultimately reaching his preferred shooting area.

Controlled Shot: By quickly aligning his body, Chigiri demonstrates exceptional control to deliver a highly accurate shot, typically aimed at the top left corner of the goal.
